Even though this song was originally written and recorded by Bob Marley in 1973, my painting was meant to refer to the Eric Clapton version. The reason for that was I did a series titled Classic Rock Song Titles of the 1970′s and I needed to fill the 1974 spot. I’m clever when I need to be! This interpretation was taken quite literally as opposed to the real meaning of the song: justice and redemption. I simply wanted to capture the gleeful expression of a grizzled character that appears to be proud of what he’s just done. And to me, the word sheriff has always conjured motifs of cowboy hats, spurs and corals.
